How to win an SEO competition

Many people asked and even used the I double triple dare you to join a recent SEO competition. I refused claiming that it was a ridiculous concept to “prove yourself” while getting in Google’s radar. If I was to join in the competition though this would be the strategy I would use to win the competition.

The competition has a basic rule.

The goal is simple to rank for a keyword no matter what right?

Here is the 4 steps to victory.

1-Create a blog post within your blog with the title tag being the desired keyword.

2-Install SEO for Firefox Plugin (thank you Aaron Wall for the best plugin ever)

2-”enable commentluv” (copy paste the command in the left to the google toolbar in your firefox browser with the SEO extension switched on). The goal is to identify blogs that use the commentluv plugin with dofollow tendencies.

3- Go down through the list and leave really nice and thoughtful comments on the blogs that do not have red highlights. Some people remove the dofollow capability of the commentluv by removing the below line from the plug in (thus the SEO for firefox plugin step)

remove_filter(’pre_comment_content’, ‘wp_re l_nofollow’).

4- It will probably take you a while but a weekend of commenting in blogs should get you the coveted #1 spot in any SEO competition in addition to the extra bonus of a few hundreds links to your blog (if the commentluv is in a dofollow blog, you get the extra bonus of getting a link to the blog’s homepage.

Good idea…but is this considered a black hat seo?

Technically yes, in real life not for now, but cant guarantee the future. That is why I would never be involved in an SEO competition.

No way this is blackhat (IMO)… it’s more just clever linkbuilding. Nothing wrong with it

OK - will try this tip; I suspect it is going to work anyhow on long tail keywords only without Comment Luv. Just make sure you ping list is extensive!

I thought that when you use the SEO FireFox extension that the red highlighted links were the ones that were do-follow or am I just reading all of this wrong?

Yes, I agree this is just linkbait. But it is a good strategy!

  • Why I do what i do

I have found my truly calling at last. After reading the below, you will think really? Yes, I have... You know why? Because I can do every industry with SEO without ever getting bored of it. I have been involved with a lot of things in life, always a workaholic, never really satisfied until I met the search engines. I have done aluminum roofing for factories (teenage years), I have been a new home construction superintendent. I have worked as a bank manager. I have dealt with automation and security technology consulting. I was involved in startups for hotel wireless internet (when wireless was a big deal). I have an MBA in marketing. I have worked with so many industries it is not even funny. Why do I write about real estate SEO because I am a partner of a family Chicago real estate agency. Do not take me wrong, I am not a "Real Estate" SEO. I have worked with so many clients from steroids to universities, to apparel stores, to hospitals to hedge funds and lawyers. I love being an SEO. No one customer is ever the same. By the way, we are also passionate about Chicago Cerebral palsy issues
